The Supercar Rivalry

Ferrari vs. Lamborghini

Rivalries exist everywhere, be it industry, sports, media, music, politics some of them are healthy but some of them are really fierce. Notable rivalries worth a mention are Microsoft vs. Apple, Pepsi vs. Coca Cola, Adidas vs. Puma, Boeing vs. Airbus, etc. Now, if I get into politics that would be too controversial, and probably I will have to bring the whole blog down, so let’s cut the politics and shift our focus to the automobile industry which too is not free from the grips of rivalry.

The automobile industry is one of the most competitive areas in the world today. Achieving a dominant market share is any auto manufacturing company’s goal and for this they would go to any lengths. Top rivalries in the auto world include Ferrari vs. Lamborghini, Ford vs. General Motors, Mercedes-Benz vs. BMW and many more with supercar manufacturers Ferrari and Lamborghini’s raging rivalry most discussed about.

A beautiful infographic on the supercar manufacturers’ history and rivalry spread across the years. However, the infographic fails to mention the the exact words that sparked the rivalry, which was

"Lamborghini, you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari properly."
- Enzo Ferrari

@ Harish

It's just a joke, it's not that they rammed their cars with this rivalry in mind, but an ordinary accident.

Adolf and Rudolf Dassler were brothers, member of the NAZI party and running their own venture in the shoe business .During the war, a growing rift between the pair reached a breaking point after an Allied bomb attack in 1943 when Adi and his wife climbed into a bomb shelter that Rudolf and his family were already in. "Here are the bloody bastards again," Adi said, apparently referring to the Allied war planes, but Rudolf was convinced his brother meant him and his family. After Rudolf was later picked up by American soldiers and accused of being a member of the Waffen SS, he was convinced that his brother had turned him in.
In 1948, the brothers split their business.
Adolf Dassler renamed his company as Adidas and Rudolf went on to start Puma..D
